EMPLOYEES

Passion with purpose

Without the support of our employees, we could not turn our sustainability vision into reality. We want our employees to be empowered to contribute to a more sustainable community and environment, and feel proud of their achievements.

Some of our employees have volunteered to take part in dedicated Green Teams. Now in place in all our sites, these local groups of employees are given the responsibility and encouraged to contribute to our sustainability vision by proposing and implementing changes at an individual site level.

Their achievements are impressive and have made an impact across our entire organisation. The Executive Committee recognises these achievements via its annual Green Team Sustainability Awards.

Supporting local communities is a key driver for our charitable commitments programme and our employees identify projects most relevant to them on a site-by-site basis. In this way we have developed some excellent community partnerships within our framework for charitable giving. This is based on two key charitable themes, blindness and family nutrition, which reflect our brand ‘Engaging the Senses’.

We operate in over 100 countries so understanding and appreciating the diversity of our employees is very important to us. Our Diversity Position Statement outlines our commitment to ensure a representative workforce that reflects the diverse communities in which we operate.

In 2009, we launched our behavioural-based safety awareness programme, 'Zero is possible' and have been rolling out a SafeStart™ training programme to strengthen our safety culture. Since then we have reduced our Lost Time Injury (LTI) rate by 44%.

More information about our employees is available in our 2011 Annual Report and 2011 Sustainability Report.
