INNOVATION AND DEVELOPMENT
Developing sustainable creations
With a long-term goal to have 100% of our new products 'sustainable by design', our Innovation and Development teams launched many sustainability-related research programmes in 2011.
Key achievements include:
- Adding more than 50 ingredients to our expanding biodegradable palette, including some important natural perfumery materials such as cedarwood, lime and cardamon.
- Publication, with our study partners, of the findings of the KeratinoSens assay into the reproducibility of in-vitro methods of testing for skin sensitisation.
- Working in partnership with Amyris Inc to use its sustainable source material Biofene⢠to produce an important fragrance material.
- The launch of a number of new health and wellness products and technologies to help enable our customers to reduce levels of sugar, fat and salt without compromising the taste consumers love.
- Building on our existing relationship with University of California Riverside by signing a ten-year collaboration agreement with its Citrus Variety Collection to help ensure the future of Citrus.
More information about the work done within our Innovation and Development pillar can be found in our 2011 Sustainability Report.
